Once founded by the Romans in the year 138 BC today Valencia is one of the main industrial centres on the Mediterranean. It has also become a European Congress Centre as well as an important focal point for international business and trade fairs. Valencia is a cosmopolitan city and is ideal for commerce and cultural exchange.

As well as the other IBSA universities, Valencia has a strong maritime link and has gained expertise in staging important events such as the America's Cup in 2004.

Sports also play a major role in Valencia as the Valencia Club de Futbol is the actual League and UEFA Cup champion 2003/2004 and has won many trophies in the past.
